Annual Reports
Anything from a simple document outlining the past year's accomplishments to complex, multipart books aimed at current and future investors.
Articles
Geared toward either internal or external communications, articles can be written for academic journals, consumer publications, newsletters or trade journals. They can be provided with my byline or ghostwritten under your name (see Ghostwriting and Collaboration below). Typically written not to toot your own horn but to demonstrate your expertise in your area, articles can boost name recognition of you and your services.
Brochures
The simplest form of communication between your company and your customers, brochures can range from a threefold brochure outlining your companys offerings or a specific product to complex minimagazines describing what you do in depth. They can introduce a new product or service or provide internal and external sales people with documentation to use in sales presentations.
Catalogs
The workhorse of marketing, catalogs are a virtual (whether in print or online) storefront allowing customers to browse your offerings and find exactly what they need.
Conference & Trade Show Materials
Event programs, posters, audiovisual and video scripts (even skits performed to demonstrate your product), flyers and workbooks are needed whenever you gather with colleagues or customers.
Consulting
Often a project budget may not allow hiring a professional to produce but having someone with the right knowledge guide your thinking can be invaluable. Whether seeking fresh ideas, critique, or simple guidance on a marketing or other writing project, an expert can open up many new doors to profits.
Direct Mail
Experts say there is no better way to build prospect lists, inform customers of new products than direct mail. Typically including a sales letter, a catalog, product sheets, flyers and much more, direct mail packages require careful planning of each included piece. Rather than just collect material, putting together a formal direct mail package can generate income quicker than almost any other sales technique.
Editing
If youve produced an article, speech or other document and want to make sure it makes sense, is grammatically correct, doesnt ramble – a good editor can clean up and refine the work youve done.
Ghostwriting & Collaboration
Getting published, with your byline, in trade journals and consumer publications catering to your customers is the best way to establish yourself or your company as the expert in your field. The next step is writing a book. But you may not have time or the writing skills to put together a complex article or book. Ghostwriting and collaboration gives you the ability to see your name in print and gain recognition for your work.
Grant Proposal Writing
For the nonprofit sector especially, but also for companies looking for funding for research projects, product testing or just about anything else you can imagine. Billions are given away every year for things you wouldnt believe. Get a grant proposal written and your dreams of the next big selling product will be realized.
Instructional Materials
Many industries require continued education and whether you employ your own training staff or hire outside experts to keep your employees up on the latest in your field, it is vital to have clearly written, focused and accurate instructional materials including, training manuals, course outlines and testing materials.
Manuals
Whether instructional, covering corporate policy and operational specs, heath code and other safety issues or standard operating procedures, manuals are worth their weight in gold. A simple binder with everything your employees need to do their job quickly, accurately and safely.
Menus
The catalog of the restaurant industry. Dont just list what you have for sale, give colorful descriptions of your wares and your establishment.
Newsletters
Communication, both internally and externally, is vital for the survival of any business. Newsletters can inform employees and customers of new events, products and general news of your company. Whether a one or twopage flyer produced monthly to slickcovered magazines covering your industry, newsletters inform, entertain, educate and most importantly keep your name in front of your customers. Can be either print, email or online.
Packaging Copy
When customers are making a buying decision, what the packaging tells them about the product inside can make or break that decision. The right copy on a package will not only sell the product, but educate the buyer and help make the decision easier.
Policies & Procedures
Every company has policies covering sick time, vacations, hours of operation, and much more. Make sure your policies and procedures are easy to understand and follow.
Product Sheets
Product sheets are simply onepage descriptions of a specific product – think of it as your typical catalog copy expanded to provide the most intimate details of that catalog item. They are an excellent tool for your sales staff and compliment brochures.
Proofreading
Similar in scope to editing (see above), proofreading is the careful examination of the structure, words and overall look of the document. Proofreading makes sure your copy is free of errors – factual or grammatical.
Presentations
Going before a group of investors, customers or even your own employees is a daunting task. Having an interesting, factfilled presentation will go a long way to sell your products and ideas. Can be anything from a simple script to a fullblown multimedia presentation.
Press Releases & Press Kits
Have you or someone in your company, perhaps a customer, done something spectacular with your product? Are you releasing a new version of your topselling system? Getting the media to write about your product, event or activity is the best kind of advertising – free! Press releases inform media outlets of special events and news at your company. Press kits provide detailed information not only of the specific event, but of your company overall. Get the press involved in your marketing efforts and watch your bottom line grow.
Public Relations
Whether in response to a problem your company or product has created (it happens to the best of us) or just interacting with your neighbors, public relations is vital for any size company. Swaying the public to your viewpoint can cut through red tape, demonstrate how your factory would benefit a community and create good will. Includes press releases, letters, ads, speeches, brochures, educational materials.
Proposals
Whether seeking grants or angel funding, gaining public and government approval for a new factory or pitching your company and expertise to gain a lucrative contract, a wellwritten proposal can mean the difference between success and failure.
Research
With so many sources, some good and others bad, it is often difficult for a busy executive to get the information needed most. I can research your topic and provide you with a concise report with all the pertinent detail in a simple to digest document. This service is great if you have a stack of books you need to read but dont have time for. Book reports are a specialty.
Scripts
For radio and TV ads, programs and infomercials, short films for education or to document a procedure or problem, multimedia presentations for trade shows and conferences, scriptwriting is a complex task requiring not only strong writing (for dialog, for example), but a feel for the overall effect desired. Often written in special formats, scripts provide a structure and a guide to aid you in getting your message out through a multitude of avenues.
Speeches
Speaking to a group of people requires forethought, organization and a feel for your audience. A wellwritten speech is as important as the presentation. Make sure that the next time you are addressing investors, your board, or general audiences, that what you want to say is really what comes out of your mouth.
Teaching
Every business and every business person produces written documents, memos and emails on a daily basis. I can teach you how to write more quickly, with more power and ease. I can give your staff a crash course in grammar and how to write emails and memos that communicate effectively.
Website Content
More than just another brochure, websites create identity, educate customers, provide an easy way for customers to interact with your staff. A website with spelling or grammatical errors will only turn off potential buyers. Just like every other piece of communication your company sends out, web copy must conform to specific guidelines in order to do its job.
White Papers
The technical data, often in article form. White papers describe your product, the engineering and technical aspects of it for an educated audience. Not intended for the average user, white papers are geared toward the technical folks who use your product and need to know how it works.
